My journey in the learning and development field began in the realm of classroom instruction, where I spent 18 years teaching a wide array of social studies subjects at both secondary and post-secondary levels. This passion for teaching and learning led me to complete a Master’s Program for teachers of American History in two years, despite its three-year trajectory, opening doors to teaching at the college level and nurturing my interest in adult education.
The transition from high school teaching to exploring opportunities within corporate learning and development was sparked by my initiative in program development, notably the creation of a credit recovery program to help high school students get back on track for graduation. This experience directed me towards considering a career in program and project management outside the traditional classroom setting.
Since embarking on a dedicated path in learning and development, my journey has been marked by significant achievements and contributions to my organizations. Transitioning from a focus on classroom instruction, I have embraced roles that leverage my expertise in instructional design, program management, and creative solution implementation within the corporate learning landscape.
In these capacities, I spearheaded initiatives to enhance sales training programs, leading to measurable improvements in sales margins through the strategic application of learning and development principles. I initiated and executed a redesign of internal communication platforms to better showcase learning opportunities and facilitate knowledge sharing among professionals. Recognizing the urgent need for adaptation due to the pandemic, I developed and implemented strategies for virtual learning, ensuring that training programs remained effective and accessible. This involved streamlining processes and introducing innovative tools to manage and deliver training more efficiently across the organization.
Since 2023, I have focused more on program development and implementation, providing the full project lifecycle. At a Fleet Services company I oversaw the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) program to increase the number of ASE-certified technicians across the organization. I implemented a communication cycle and internal marketing plan to increase awareness of ASE and engage technicians with available preparation materials. I monitored data provided reports to internal business partners, and worked with third-party providers to collect data and link employee accounts with the ASE database.
Currently, in my role as a Learning Consultant in the finance sector, I have been instrumental in facilitating development programs that align with organizational objectives to foster career growth. I’ve successfully guided multiple cohorts through specialized training programs, leading to significant career advancements for participants. My work includes developing engaging learning materials and assessment tools that not only drive engagement but also accurately measure learning outcomes. Additionally, I’ve provided essential interview and resume training, equipping associates with critical skills for their career progression.
