Transforming Challenges to Opportunities Through Adaptive Change
An immersive training module developed in Articulate Storyline to empower professionals with key agility skills for today’s evolving workplace. The module incorporates a myriad of learning methods, including interactive drag-and-drop activities, scenario-based questions, and a decision-making simulation to ensure understanding and application of agility concepts. Augmented by a TED Talk on enterprise agility, a presentation on resilience and flexibility, and personal assessments for reflection, the training provides a holistic approach to agility. It aims to meet specific, measurable goals like grasping agility components, making agile decisions, and drafting personal agility plans, thereby creating a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.
The Process: ADDIE
Agility stands out as a key bottleneck for career growth among entry level associates in the operations segment. They operate under tight schedules with limited time for professional development, making it difficult to hone their agility skills. It is crucial to address the gap to promote career advancement.
Learning Audience: Entry level operations associates looking to grow their career
Other Stakeholders: In addition to HR and upper management, key stakeholders include leaders from different business units where associates might transition, making their input vital for aligning the training with organizational needs.
Learning Space: The training will be executed in a hybrid learning environment, combining e-learning with virtual instructor-led sessions. Cohort sizes will range between 8 to 20 associates, some of whom will engage in the training remotely due to geographical factors. The agility module, part of a more extensive training program, will be condensed into one month and include self-study, virtual classes, and hands-on exercises.

I began the development process by using feedback gathered to update objectives for the Agility Segment. During the Analysis and Design phase I curated and created resources. I then organized them into an order that seemed to make sense. After finalizing the objectives, I organized the content. Using this order, I created the project storyboard in Articulate Storyline using scenes and slides. This allowed me to examine the project scope clearly and easily see the tasks left to complete.
Once I began adding content to Storyline, the project began to change. I didn’t feel the visual for the introduction was enough to provide the desired imagery. Searching YouTube, I found footage of the location and reached out to the creator, who was very open to using his material in my project. I pulled footage from several of his hikes, chose scenes that fit well with the narration, and then built the video. For the video, I used Wondershare Filmora to assemble the pieces. I recorded the audio in Adobe Audition. After rendering the video in Filmora, I moved to Premiere Pro to further smooth the slowed-down scenes. Premiere Pro is a much more robust video editing tool, and I didn’t create it there because it does require more time.
I did not want to narrate the entire project so I chose an AI voice in Storyline and included text-to-speech files. In reality, when I use this segment, much of it will be done in person. This project is a good opportunity to see if it would work as an eLearning, and I believe it does have potential.
I also wanted this to be more engaging than a click-and-listen. The knowledge checks are designed to be learning experiences as well as assessments, including feedback dedicated to improving and reinforcing knowledge. Originally, I intended to include a video for enterprise agility and a related branching scenario. As I moved further into development these items felt like scope creep and were removed. Much of the content in this learning experience is targeted to individual development and while the enterprise content is related, it is not at the level I wanted for this addition to the overall program. Those portions were removed and replaced by a video that is geared more toward personal development. One of the last elements I built was the personal assessment. For this I used Adobe Forms.
The form allows respondents to assess their agility by reflecting on statements across categories like awareness, risk-taking, and collaboration. Respondents select their level of agreement for each statement. Upon completion, a functionality tallies these selections to calculate an overall agility score, facilitating a self-assessment of one’s readiness and adaptability in various aspects of personal and professional growth.
I piloted the training with a diverse group of professionals, most of which were similar to the target audience. Learners were approached with an informative and appreciative email, outlining the context and expectations of the eLearning module. The email emphasized the focus on user experience, providing a survey link for structured feedback and a PDF overview of the survey questions. The module, hosted on Articulate’s Review 360, was introduced as an immersive training tool designed in Articulate Storyline to enhance agility skills for professionals in evolving workplaces. It was clearly communicated that the module included various interactive learning methods, such as drag-and-drop activities, scenario-based questions, and concept recognition assessments.
The feedback received led to several significant modifications in the module, focusing on refining the content, enhancing navigability, and improving the overall user experience. Adjustments included fine-tuning information triggers and optimizing audio availability. This iterative process of refinement, guided by diverse and insightful feedback, has not only improved the current module but also set a foundation for adapting the content and delivery format to meet the needs of future audiences more effectively.
Refining the agility-focused eLearning module begins with a thorough analysis of learner struggles to identify areas for improvement. During the evaluation phase, discussions with pilot participants and reviews of their survey results highlighted several themes. These included a need for clarity and conciseness, particularly in the introductory video and personal assessment instructions. Feedback also pointed to user experience and navigation issues, such as navigation inconsistencies and button functionality. There was an emphasis on enhancing engagement and interaction, as participants valued the interactive nature of the module but suggested improvements like more audio narration in case studies. The analysis revealed a balance and pacing issue, where some participants felt overwhelmed by the content volume. Lastly, the need for consistency in instructional design was evident, particularly in the sections’ naming and the interactive elements’ functionality.
Several changes have been proposed and partially implemented in response to these challenges. The introductory video has been prefaced and condensed to enhance clarity and engagement. Personal assessment instructions have been revised for greater clarity. Navigation and button functionality have been standardized, with all elements now having hover capability for information reveal. Post-case study questions have been introduced to provide immediate context. Optional narration in case studies addresses different learning preferences, and radio buttons have been streamlined for ease of use.
